Trendy Halloween Costume Ideas for 2017
Halloween is just around the corner and if you’re looking for a costume in Calgary that’s right on trend, here are a few ideas to inspire you. At Canuck Amusements & Merchandising, we carry a huge variety of costumes that will be perfect for your Halloween party!
Daenerys and Jon Snow
Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you know the cultural phenomenon that is Game of Thrones. The most recognizable characters in the series are Daenerys and Jon Snow. If you’re doing Halloween as a couple, then these characters are a great choice.
To pull off Daenerys, you’ll need a blonde wig, a blue or white renaissance style dress and appropriate accessories. For Jon Snow, a curly black wig, black cape, black leather vest or tunic, black boots and sword are indispensable. If kiddos are involved, consider dressing one up as a dragon and the other as a wolf.
With box office hits of 2017 like Wonder Woman and Spiderman, as well as the continuing popularity of TV shows based on Marvel and DC Comics characters (The Defenders, Supergirl, The Flash, etc.), dressing up as your favourite superhero may be just the ticket to achieving the perfect child or adult costume. Some characters to consider dressing up as for Halloween parties or trick-or-treating in Calgary include:
- Green Arrow
- The Flash
- Wonder Woman
- Captain America
- Black Widow
Alternatively, if you’re the creative type, you can also create your own superhero persona.
Unicorns are everywhere in 2017, with unicorn food (foods dressed up with food dye and/or decorations), unicorn toys and unicorn clothing and fashion accessories all around us. This October, we also have a My Little Pony movie hitting the theatres. Unicorn costumes for young and old alike are therefore sure to be a big hit this Halloween.
The Emmy award winning series The Handmaid’s Tale became a huge cultural phenomenon this year and the show’s red costumes became an important symbol donned by women in political rallies across the globe. Consider being a handmaid this Halloween by wearing a long-sleeved, tea-length red dress, a red hooded cape, black boots, white bonnet and carrying a mesh bag.
Zombies continue to be a relevant cultural icon with the Princess of Pop herself, Taylor Swift, dressing up as a zombie in her recently released music video for “Look What You Made Me Do.” Additionally, hit series The Walking Dead is in its eighth season and spinoff series Fear the Walking Dead is in its third. This Halloween DIY a zombie costume or get something off the rack. Of course, getting the makeup right is crucial to getting that fresh-out-of-the-grave look.
